You’ve said “yes!” — now what? It’s completely normal to feel a little overwhelmed when you first start planning your wedding. Between the Pinterest boards, the budgets, and the guest lists, it can feel like there’s a lot to juggle.
To help you get started, we’ve put together a simple checklist for the early stages of wedding planning — whether you’re planning a grand celebration or something intimate and relaxed here at Low Osgoodby Grange.
1. Decide What Matters Most
Before you dive into the details, take a moment together to chat about what kind of day you want.
Big party or small gathering?
Formal or relaxed?
Indoors or outdoors?
Must-haves (band, food, sunset photos, etc.)
This helps guide every other decision you make.
2. Set Your Budget (and Be Honest About It)
Your budget doesn’t have to be final at this stage — but having a ballpark figure helps you narrow down your options.
💡 Tip: Divide your budget into rough categories — venue, food, outfits, photography, décor, entertainment, etc.
3. Pick Your Venue (and Date)
Venues tend to book up quickly (especially in summer), so it’s worth securing this early.
When visiting venues, ask:
What’s included in the hire price?
Do we have flexibility with timings or suppliers?
Are there indoor and outdoor options?
What happens if it rains?
At Low Osgoodby Grange, we love helping couples create a day that feels totally “them,” whether that’s a relaxed weekend celebration or a one-day event with stunning countryside views.
4. Make Your Guest List
Possibly one of the hardest jobs!! Start broad, then refine. Your venue capacity and budget will naturally guide your final numbers but it can be a difficult process sometimes!
It’s often easier to start with your “must-invite” people and work outwards from there.
5. Choose Your Key Suppliers
Think about the suppliers that book up fast:
Photographer/videographer
Caterer
Florist
Entertainment (band/DJ)
Celebrant/registrar
💡 Tip: Ask your venue for their trusted supplier list — it can save a lot of research and stress!
6. Think About Accommodation & Travel
If your venue is a little off the beaten track (like ours!), it’s worth planning early where guests will stay and how they’ll get there.
We have a B and B on site with 4 rooms and also a Bell Tent filed, however there is also lots of great local accommodation options nearby, and we’re happy to share recommendations.
7. Enjoy the Process
It’s easy to get caught up in logistics, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey.
Celebrate the little milestones, and remind yourselves what it’s all about — celebrating your love, surrounded by your favourite people.
